2015 Topic – Public Spaces in Progress

2nd annual of the conference titled Public Spaces Bratislava will take place on 1. a 2. december 2015
in the Slovenská národná galéria (Slovak National Gallery) under the auspices of the President of the Slovak Republic, Andrej Kiska.

While the first annual presented strategies, community projects and initiatives, this year will focus on projects in the preparation phases. The topic is “Public Spaces in Progress.” PUBLIC SPACES 2015 will pay attention to planned investments, new strategic developer projects, which will include new public spaces in Bratislava. The role of state administration, the issue of public tenders, making use and drawing of EU funds in the revitalising of public spaces go hand in hand with that. Again, the second annual will bring leading international ateliers, whose portfolio aims at creating public spaces.

WORKSHOP

DOMESTICITY IN PUBLIC SPACE

Is public space a real living space or is are we just subject to the flows of circulation, events and consuming? The 3 day workshop, run by 2 members of ONOFF (onoff.cc), will focus on the re-use of old furniture to build 1 or more modules of street furniture to be placed in public space in Bratislava. The goal is to produce new typologies of furniture that question and examine the way we interact, or in most cases retract, from domesticating public space. The 3 day workshop wll include a presentation, design phase, building phase and street phase.

Capacity: 10-12 students of FA STU*
Registration: info@publicspaces.sk
* participation in the workshop is conditional on conference registration

PROJECT

PUBLIC SPACES DEMONSTRATION

The project Demonstration follows comparison of human motion, social interaction and consumerism in public space. Are we as users of public space able to evaluate quality of our shared space? Can we expecta nd ask for more? Is life in public space cliché or necessity, which we need to our adequate developement? Demonstration follows five locations in Bratislava. Through simple visual communication tools, the project tracks the potential of selected public spaces. Demonstration interacts with citizens, the project asks, gets inspired, challenges alternatives and presents solutions.
